Experiential Therapy Ropes/Horticulture
During participation in the Horticulture program, the resident assumes the responsibility in decision making in relation to caring, nurturing, cultivating, growing and the harvesting of crops and plants. Experiential therapy serves as an interactive therapy, a life skills experience, and a positive leisure time activity that has an existing community network.
Resident's participating during the Ropes program are afforded the opportunity to work as a group, to effectively communicate, to collectively solve problems, to foster a sense of empathy and respect for other team members, to provide honest and useful feedback, to resolve conflicts, to effectively manage resources, and to share in a group experience builds a sense of community that when properly accomplished, translates effectively back to the treatment environment. Challenge and experiential activities also happen to provide an interesting and fun method for learning and applying these skills.
